Perma-Fix Capabilities
Founded in 1990, Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (Perma-Fix) is a $100M,
650 person company with 10 locations across the country. Operating as an environmental
clean-up firm specializing in hazardous, radioactive and mixed (radioactively contaminated
hazardous) waste, Perma-Fix has evolved to become the leader in providing the most
comprehensive waste management services through the implementation of treatment
technologies both at client sites and at our fully licensed and permitted facilities.
Perma-Fix currently provides project management, waste management, operation of
storage and repackaging facilities, operation of on-site disposal facilities, and
waste treatment to support remediation, clean-up and waste management activities
for the United States Department of Energy(DOE).
Perma-Fix brings over 54 years of combined operating experience in the development,
management and operation of facilities under
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Part B permits, Agreement State Radioactive Materials Licenses, National Pollutant
Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) storm water discharge permits, Air permits,
and United States Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Certificate of
Registrations. In addition, our South Bay facility (located at M&EC) provides us
with years of experience in performing operations in accordance with our security
clearance approval for possession of secret restricted data (SRD), a Facility Security
Plan (FSP) under a DOE/AEA authorization, a nuclear hazard categorization of "Radiological"
by inventory and performing operations under a safety basis.
Through the operation of our treatment facilities, Perma-Fix has provided a necessary
service to solve the national problem of stockpiled waste streams not suitable for
land disposal. Our facilities were designed and constructed specifically for DOE’s
unique and complex mixed waste streams and have safely and successfully
treated significant volumes of wastes. Perma-Fix has been instrumental in addressing
many of the DOE’s orphan wastes that have helped with facility closures (e.g., Rocky
Flats and Mound) and met site treatment plan milestones (e.g., Oak Ridge, Portsmouth,
and Hanford). Currently, as a teaming subcontractor to CHPRC, LLC, the prime contractor
for the DOE, for the Hanford Plateau Remediation Contract (PRC),
Perma-Fix's M&EC provides
project management, waste management, operation of storage and repackaging facilities,
operations of onsite disposal facilities, and waste treatment to support CHPRC in
its mission to perform remediation, clean-up, and waste management activities for
the DOE.
Further, Perma-Fix is one of only two commercial companies in the U.S. that is certified
as a generator for disposal at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This capability
provides DOE assured disposition of radioactive wastes generated under all ID/IQ
task orders in compliance with DOE O 435.1. This program has previously been utilized
for numerous DOE clients such as: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL),
Savannah River, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Argonne National Laboratory.
