Perma-Fix Northwest currently provides the following waste processing services:
- Low-Level Waste Thermal Treatment – Utilizing two thermal treatment units (“Bulk Processing Units”), the facility offers volume reduction of a variety of LLRW. This system is unique because it allows for “No Disposal Volume” (NDV) for certain client wastes that greatly reduces their long term liability for disposal. Average volume reductions range conservatively from 20 - 30:1.
- Supercompaction – Ideal for waste not suitable for thermal treatment, the supercompactor provides maximum volume reductions, averaging 6 to 8:1, for dry active waste, asbestos-containing materials, metals, and filters in preparation for disposal or further treatment such as macro encapsulation. This is accomplished using mechanical compaction in a horizontal ram compactor unit.
- Macroencapsulation – Provides a land disposal restriction compliant waste form for mixed waste combined with volume reductions that average 2 to 3:1 for mixed waste debris and radioactive lead solids. Wastes are first volume reduced, then surrounded by a minimum of a 2” grout matrix in various sized containers. Macroencapsulation can also safely treat higher activity waste.
- Neutralization and Stabilization (Microencapsulation) – Ideally suited for acidic or basic wastes requiring neutralization. Provides a land disposal restriction compliant waste form for metals and mixed waste, which includes liquids, sludge, soils, and debris that can be shredded.
- Treatments for EDTA solutions – Full destruction of EDTA chelates with significant volume reductions is achieved through a combination of thermal destruction and absorption.
