These instructions refer to Excel files, but generally apply to any file you want to use for yourself (put on your computer to view/use at your leisure).
Many of the Excel files Perma-Fix provides are forms intended for you to fill out on your
computer and (usually) email to us.
In order to do this it is VERY important that you SAVE (download) the file to
YOUR computer. The number one mistake people make is 'regular' (left) clicking on
the link to the file. In most cases Excel (or Word) will then open within your browser window;
appearing to work correctly. However, "Saving" from the browser's File menu will NOT work
(it ends up saved as HTML instead of an Excel file).
The correct procedure:
- RIGHT CLICK on the provided link to the Excel file.
- This should "pop up" a menu; then choose the "Save Link As" or "Save Target As"
(exact wording will depend on your browser).
This will start the download process. "Downloading" just means you are saving
the file to your own computer, the same as any other save operation.
- You will next see your computer's normal "save" dialog box, asking you to
specifiy where on your computer you want the file put, and what to name it.
Remember what you put here so you can find the file later. Click "Save" (or "OK").
- The download (transfer from the web site to your computer) will begin. The time this
takes will depend on the size of the file,
your connection speed, and how busy the lines are. You may see your computer's download progress
indicator.
- Once the download is complete, simply open and use the file as you would any regular
Excel file. You may first want to make a copy (name it something different) to save
as a blank template for later use (or if you mess up).
- Once you have filled out the form, be sure and SAVE IT!
- Email the SAVED, FILLED OUT FORM as directed for the form
in question, as an attachment: Create a new email message addressed to the correct
email, with any
information needed in the text of the message. Then ATTACH the saved,
filled out Excel file (if you also saved a separate blank copy as
suggested above, make sure you don't accidently attach the blank file).
