Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. is a national environmental services company, providing unique hazardous, mixed and industrial waste management services. The Industrial Services Division provides waste treatment services for a diverse group of customers including Fortune 500 Companies, numerous Federal, State and local agencies and thousands of smaller clients. The Nuclear Services Division provides radioactive and mixed waste treatment services to hospitals, research laboratories and institutions, numerous Federal agencies including the Department of Energy and Defense and Nuclear utilities. The Company operates nine major waste treatment facilities across the country. Perma-Fix began in 1990 as a treatment and reclamation company for hazardous and industrial waste and completed a public offering in December 1992 to facilitate a series of acquisitions, primarily of treatment and reclamation technologies and facilities. Locations The Company has a strong presence in the Southeast and Midwest where its nine major waste treatment facilities are located. In addition the Company maintains five service centers located throughout the U.S. Company Corporate headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia The Industrial Services Division operates six major RCRA treatment facilities located in Detroit, Dayton, Memphis, Tulsa, Valdosta (Georgia) and Ft. Lauderdale, and five service centers across the U. S. The Nuclear Services Division operates three RCRA permitted and radioactive licensed treatment facilities for radioactive and hazardous waste in Gainesville, Florida and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Nuclear Service Group includes a unique treatment facility located within the Department of Energy's K-25 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Environmental Consulting Division operates out of offices in St. Louis, Missouri. Growth and Revenue Revenues for the Company have grown dramatically over the last three years fueled by internal growth as new technologies have been added to existing facilities, and by acquisitions. Waste market factors, coupled with the attractive and proprietary nature of the Company's processes, give management strong expectations that these operations will continue to grow. Historically, more than two-thirds of the Company's total revenues were derived from its industrial waste treatment operations, a large portion of which encompasses all aspects of wastewater treatment including hazardous, non-hazardous, on-site and off-site activities. The remainder is derived from the radioactive and mixed waste market, which is now experiencing exceptional growth. Proprietary Technologies The core of the Company's strategy is developing and commercializing waste treatment technologies. Several of the Company's proprietary technologies already are commercially available - among these are two key processes: the Perma-Fix Process and the Perma-Fix II Process. Other treatment technologies also have been developed and proven for Thorium, Uranium and problem materials. The Perma-Fix Process is a proprietary mobile treatment technology that converts hazardous, low-level radioactive waste into non-hazardous material, which then can be disposed of economically. The process is simple, safe, creates little or no volume increase, reduces radioactive emissions through densification, and is the most cost effective option on the market today for cleaning up mixed waste. The Perma-Fix II Process is a chemical destruction process for organic materials, including solids contaminated with solvents, pesticides, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) and other hazardous organics. The Company always strives to meet the highest standards for safe, legal and efficient handling of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Contracts and Agreements The Company has won numerous U.S. Department of Energy contracts for mixed waste treatment, and has become a regular contractor in a market that represents enormous growth potential. The Company teamed with East Tennessee Materials and Equipment Corp. (M&EC) in 1998 to efficiently address DOE waste management opportunities at Oak Ridge, Tennessee by construction of a RCRA treatment facility at the DOE's K-25 facility. The Company completed the acquisition of M&EC effective in June 2001. As the team leader, M&EC was awarded three contracts by the government-appointed management company for the environmental program at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The award entails processing DOE's broad spectrum mixed waste and is estimated to generate up to $100 million in revenues for the team over an estimated five-year time period.
